18+ harm prevention

Responsible play starts with the ability to stop

Gambling can cause financial, emotional and relationship harm. “Responsible” does not make an activity safe or lawful; it means recognising risk early and putting distance between an urge and an irreversible action.

18+ only. Do not gamble with borrowed money, essential household funds or money needed for debt, food, rent, education, healthcare or emergencies.

When play is no longer casual

Money signals

  • Chasing losses with larger stakes
  • Borrowing, selling items or hiding transactions
  • Missing bills or using essential funds
  • Believing one win will solve accumulated losses

Life signals

  • Lying about time or money spent
  • Sleep disruption, anxiety or irritability
  • Neglecting work, study or relationships
  • Repeated unsuccessful attempts to stop

Make the next action harder

  1. Leave the site or app and turn off notifications.
  2. Remove saved payment methods and lower payment limits.
  3. Uninstall unneeded apps and block relevant domains.
  4. Tell a trusted person what is happening.
  5. Separate essential money from discretionary access.
  6. Ask a qualified counsellor or financial professional for help.

Losses are not a debt the next bet can repay

Each event remains uncertain. Increasing stake size after a loss increases exposure; it does not create a recovery obligation in the market.

Responsible-use questions

Can a spending limit make gambling safe?

No. A limit can reduce exposure but cannot remove financial, legal or psychological risk.

What is loss-chasing?

It is continuing or increasing play to recover previous losses. It often compounds harm because the next result is not obliged to offset the last one.
